Find car insurance that fits your needs

Third-party only

Third-party only is the legal minimum required to drive on UK roads. It covers damage and injury you cause to other people, their vehicles, and their property. It does not cover any damage to your own car. Despite being the cheapest level of cover, it is not always the lowest-priced option since insurers price based on risk profiles.

Fully comprehensive

Fully comprehensive is the most popular choice in the UK. It covers damage to your own car as well as third-party claims, including collisions, vandalism, weather damage, and single-vehicle accidents. If your car is written off, you receive its market value. Many policies also include windscreen cover, a courtesy car, and personal belongings cover.

Third-party, fire and theft

This mid-level cover adds protection against fire damage and theft to the basic third-party policy. It does not cover damage to your own car from collisions. Often chosen for older or lower-value vehicles.

Tips: Build up your no-claims discount (NCD) to get significantly lower premiums. Use comparison sites like Compare the Market or GoCompare for competitive quotes. Make sure the car appears on the Motor Insurance Database (MID) before you drive it away. If you are buying privately, arrange cover before collecting the car.
